(2015-July 12-16) Taboose Pass to the Pinchot Basin. Inyo NF and Kings Canyon NP, California.
7,000'+ of elevation gain on this trip!!! Began by driving the 5 hours to Taboose Creek and then hiked about halfway up the canyon. Found a beautiful flat campsite among trees and spent the night there. The weather had been extremely hot with high humidity, so I got up at about 0300 hours and finished the hike up and over Taboose Pass, making great time. Set up camp at one of the large tarns on the west side of the John Muir Trail in the Pinchot Basin. Hiked up to Pinchot Pass, caught some nice shots in partly cloudy skies, and hiked back to camp. Spent the next morning hiking all the way back to my vehicle. Great trip with some nice partly cloudy sunsets for those colorful evening photographs.
