(2014- June 1-2) Hilton Creek to Upper Stanford Lake. Inyo National Forest
The first two photographs in this series were taken early in the Sierra hiking season (April 21-22). The first photograph depicts lenticular clouds forming southeast of Rock Creek Lake. To an experienced mountain person, that means the weather is going to be changing soon (usually not for the better). I snowshoed in a little over 5 miles and camped for the night and in the morning, the snow began to fall. I decided to pack things up and head out. The snow began falling heavy and I soon was using my GPS to find my way back to my vehicle. I made it back in time to slowly roll out in 4-wheel drive and ended this trip. I could have stayed a few days, but I get too restless in my tent. I've got to be out running around or I go crazy!! Figured I come back another day and explore.
I came back in June and hiked in to Lake 10,353'. Beautiful area, however there was still a lot of snow on the ground. Climbed up to the Saddle beneath Mount Stanford and gazed down upon Stanford Lake. Climbed around the area a bit and then left later that evening. A nice short trip, however the weather was not what I was looking for (photographically speaking).
