(2010-August 24-27) Wallace Col to the Evolution Basin. Sierra Nevada Range, California.
Hiked up to Echo Lake from Lake Sabrina and camped nearby. The next morning I shot up and over Wallace Col, choosing to do some class 3 climbing to the right (north) of the col on Mount Wallace rather than swimming through the steep, loose scree below the actual Col. Once over the Col, I boulder hopped along the lakes in the canyon heading west until I hit Sapphire Lake and the Joun Muir Trail. Camped on the east side of Sapphire Lake, setting up my tent just prior to an afternoon thunder shower, which actually carried into the prime shooting time in the evening. The next morning, I circled Sapphire Lake, broke camp, and hiked up to Wanda Lake. I set up camp and hiked over to the edge of the Davis Lake Basin, Mount Goddard, and then on to Muir Pass. Returned back to camp in time to enjoy a little afternoon nap. Captured some decent evening photographs of Mounts Mendel and Darwin. Woke up the following morning, broke camp at approximately 0500 hours and hiked to Evolution Lake, up to the Darwin Bench, and up and over the Lamarck Col. Made it back to my vehicle by 1500 hours. Good Times.
