(2010-July 9-13) Crescent Meadow to the Nine Lake Basin. Western Sierra Nevada Range, California.
A lovely backpack from Crescent Meadow over the Kaweah Gap to the Nine Lake Basin. Approximately 55 miles of trail and cross-country over 5 days. No clear (blue sky) days on this trip, very stormy weather, which gave way to beautiful sunrise/sunsets. Probably one of the best trips I've taken involving changing weather for photography. Absolutely stunning cloud formations and sunsets/sunrises. Began this trip from the west side of the Sierras, which I've tended to avoid for some time now because of the distance you need to tread before getting to the "High Sierra" which I love so much.
Began this trip (Crescent Meadow) hiking approximately 17 miles before reaching the first lake, Hamilton Lake. Not much (for me anyway) to photograph until this point, just lots of tall trees. The following day, I hiked up and over Kaweah Gap and into the Nine lake Basin and the Big Arroyo. Now this is where the fun begins. Lots of beautiful lakes and stunning mountain scenery abound!! Hiked and climbed all over this basin for the next three days.
Captured some of my most stunning cloud formation photographs to date, a very lucky time to be in the "High Country". Every afternoon I was treated to magnificent thunder storms and awesome cloud formations. Stayed in the Basin as long as I could, before breaking one of my backpack travelling distance records back to my vehicle. Twenty-three miles from my camp in the Nine Lake Basin to my vehicle back at Crescent Meadow. I was beat, but it was well worth it. What a beatiful trip!!!!!
