I captured this photograph of Lower Calf Creek Falls in the early morning hours in May of 2011. This beautiful waterfall is located in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in Utah and involves a nice and easy 6 mile hike (round trip). I had been to this falls before, however the light wasn't right for what I was looking for. The bright Sun was illuminating half of the falls and the other half was in shadow. I decided to capture it just after sunrise, so the falls would be lit with warm ambient light instead of hard direct light. I slowed the shutter down by using a circular polarizer and shot it at a very small aperture (F/22, 4secs, @ 12mm). The end result was a well balanced capture with smooth silky water and deep color.
