(2014-June 15-16) Meysan Creek to Candlelight Peak. Inyo National Forest, California
I had camped in this basin last year when I climbed Lone Pine Peak. With nothing much to photograph in the evening, I went to sleep early and woke around 0330 hours to begin my climb up to the ridge. I made it to the ridge at sunrise and captured the shots I came here for. This is such a beautiful spot to view Mount Whitney as well and I plan to come back here again to stay the night up high and catch the sunset over Whitney as well as and sunrise. Was going to climb up to Mounts' Irvine and Mallory, however the access colouir was still filled with snow/ice.
Hiked and climbed my way over to Upper Meysan Lake and then headed back to camp. Took a nice rest, packed up camp, and then headed back down the canyon. I didn't see another soul in the Meysan Basin and there had been a 3/4 Moon above most of the early morning. Made it back to my Xterra late in the afternoon and drove back home. A lovely short trip with decent photography and solitude, what else does one need?
